The Children’s Nutcracker Rehearsal and Performance Information 2022
The Children’s Nutcracker is our All School Performance for our 2022 Winter Gala. The Children’s Nutcracker is an abridged version of the Nutcracker Ballet that tells the whole story of the Nutcracker but in a more succinct child friendly way! The performance is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes in length including an intermission. There will be two performances on December 3rd with two casts. CAST A will perform at 2:00pm and CAST B will perform at 7:00pm.
Please Note: MAD Co., Mini MAD, Contemporary 3, and Ballet 4, 4/5, 5, 5/6, will perform in BOTH SHOWS!

Tickets are for sale through the Buskirk-Chumley Theater ONLY. They can be purchased online www.bctboxoffice.org or in person at their box office 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. The show will be professionally recorded and released on our MotionArts YouTube channel for a limited time. DVD’s will also be available for purchase through the MotionArts website.
IN STUDIO RUN THROUGH REHEARSALS:
A Full Run through of ACT I CAST A and CAST B at MotionArts: will take place on Saturday November 12th with CAST A 1:00-2:00pm and CAST B 2:15-3:15pm
A Full Run through of ACT II CAST A and CAST B at MotionArts: will take place on Saturday November
19th with CAST A 1:00-2:00pm (TINY TAP will be done at 1:30pm) and CAST B 2:15-3:15pm
DRESS REHEARSALS AT The BCT:
Dress Rehearsal at The Buskirk Chumley Theater for CAST A ACT I & ACT II will take place on Friday, December 2nd. ACT I dancers will rehearse 6:00-7:30pm, ACT II dancers will rehearse 7:00-8:30pm. Parent’s may stay and quietly watch. Once your dancer’s class has finished, we ask you leave the rehearsal in order to open up space for incoming dancers.
Dress Rehearsal at The Buskirk Chumley Theater for CAST B ACT I & ACT II will take place on Saturday,
December 3rd 10:00-11:30am. Only the following classes need to attend this rehearsal!: Ballet 3 Cast B,
Saturday PreBallet, Saturday Ballet 1, Saturday Ballet 2, Jazz 2 & 4, Lyrical 5, Tap 1&2 and Contemporary 2. Parent’s may stay and quietly watch. Once your dancer’s class has finished, we ask you leave the rehearsal in order to open up space for incoming dancers.
SHOWS:
CAST A (2:00pm Show): Please drop off your dancer at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on December 3rd by 1:00pm. Dancers will be directed to their assigned area to put on costumes and be organized with their teacher/group leader. Dancers will remain with their teacher/leader for the show, sitting in the student section with their class. If a dancer is in more than one dance, their teachers will make sure they are handed off to the next teacher. Older students ages 9+ in multiple dances may report to the downstairs dressing room and remain there for the show after checking in. The doors open for seating at 1:30, show starts at 2:00pm and should end at approximately 3:15pm. There will be a full cast bow at the end of the show. Dancers must return costumes neatly to their assigned area in the marked bins and be checked out before leaving the theater.
CAST B (7:00pm Show): Please drop off your dancer at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on December 3rd by 6:00pm. Costume Requirements by Class:
Costume Loan: MotionArts owns all costumes and accessories. We do this to help keep the cost low for all dancers and to be responsible consumers! Some costumes will be distributed the last week of classes, but most pieces will be distributed at the theater. Dancers will need to wear their own leotard, tights, and shoes (requirements by class listed below) and arrive ready to put their costume on. All bags, coats and shoes should be left with parents. All Costumes and accessories distributed at the theater must be returned immediately after the show to their designated bins to be used again for the next performance.
Preballet: Girls: Pink narrow strap leotard (no skirts) pink tights with feet, pink ballet slippers, hair in bun. Boys: Black leggings, black ballet slippers.
Ballet 1: Black narrow strap leotard, pink ballet slippers, hair in bun (tights optional since costume includes leggings).
Ballet 2: Black narrow strap leotard, pink tights with feet, pink ballet slippers, hair in bun.
Ballet 3: Any color leotard, pink tights with feet, pink shoes, hair in bun.
Ballet 4-6: nude leotard, pink tights, ballet slippers, hair in bun.
Lyrical 3/4, 5: leotard from MotionArts (may want to wear nude leotard underneath) pink tights, ballet slippers, hair in bun.
Contemporary 1,2,3: black narrow strap leotard, pink footless or convertible tights, hair in bun.
Jazz 1, 2, 3, 4: Black narrow strap leotard (no skirts), bare legs or pink tights, jazz shoes, hair in bun. Tiny Tap, Tap 1, Tap 2: Girls: Black narrow strap leotard without attached skirt, pink tights with feet, black socks if needed black tap shoes, hair in bun. Boys: plain white short sleeved t-shirt, plain black leggings, black socks, black tap shoes.
